My 16 y.o. daughter got caught stealing $60.00 worth of merchandise at a Kohls in California. She was with another girl and she admitted to the police that they planned this before they went into the store. My daughter was completely honest, while the other girl lied about everything. This was her first offense and better be the last!
They released her to me and we will be hearing from the court/juvenille systems. The officer said since she admitted to have intent to steal it is considered burglery. They were very nice with my daughter (not so much the other girl, who they warned us to stay away from). I believe this was peer pressure, as she has never been in any trouble before, but it's still her fault and will pay the consequences. She is actually glad that she got caught.
She wants to write a letter of apology, but I don't know if that is something she should do. I'm afraid it will look like she's trying to get out of this, which she isn't.
We are are not in a position to seek legal help and hopefully that will be okay when we go to court.
Any advice or information on what to expect would be appreciated. Thank you!
