Received summons for old debt

I have received a summons regarding an old debt that is trying to be collected.  It is a contract type debt that was done online and I no longer have any copies of the original contract.  There were stipulated repayment terms, but I defaulted.  The last contact I had with anyone about this debt was in 2005.  The debt was undertaken in CA, but I now reside in NE.  This debt does not show up on my credit report at all.  The stature of limitations for NE for a contract debt is 6 years.  Is it legal for me to be brought to court for this debt?
