Can his time in restitution be counted towards his current time served?

My husband has been sentenced to six months in prison, but they're deducting time from that, from time that he's already served in the past. He spent three months in prison, and six in restitution. Can those six months in restitution be counted and deducted towards his total time served? Or will they just count the jail time and not restitution.
