An employee in a well known supermarket gave a lost and found item to the wrong person

An employee in a well known supermarket gave a lost and found item to the wrong person. Do I have a case for filing a lawsuit, and getting the value of the items lost as money back? What is your advice that i do in this situation? A police report is made and the investigation is underway, but there is still no clue of the woman that took it from the store, saying that it was hers. The woman is actually caught on camera, it is a woman and it is clearly shown that she is walking out of the store with the suitcase (in which I had an iPhone, iPad, jewelry, clothes, important documents). My hope of the police finding the woman is getting smaller day after day, so I am thinking of a way to return at least the money, because we do not have the amount of money to replace everything that was in the suitcase. I will appreciate every advice you give me.
