What type of lawyer or paralegal to get to help me amend and obtain some old documents. it has been difficult trying it alone...

I am an American applying for citizenship to Hungary, through my grandfather who is Hungarian. My application was given back because of some issues. 1. My birth certificate needs to be amended so that my father is on it, and I am using my new last name (grandfatherʻs family name). 2. My fatherʻs birth certificate has to be amended also, because his did not have a name on it. 3. We have not been able to locate my grandparentsʻ original marriage certificate from 1959, Washington DC. We just have the churchʻs certificate. So not sure what kind of attorney I need for this, or if I can hire a paralegal, or someone else for this. I am also wondering how much I should expect to pay for this service, so when I ask for quotes I already have an idea of what it should cost. Thanks so much in advance.

You should contact a US immigration lawyer to help with your document preparation on this end; then you might need a Hungarian immigration lawyer for the other end. All the best.

Hi, I am trying to get some AMERICAN documents amended. I dont think an immigration lawyer would help with that since the documents dont really have anything to do with immigration. Also, any idea on a quote?

Immigration lawyers, paralegals, and immigration consultants routinely deal with getting documents up to date. They are the best suited for what you need. You may of course try another type of lawyer/consultant but in my opinion an immigration specialist is what you probably need. I don't know how much this will cost, but likely not much since it only involves having documents changed, etc. You could probably even do those things yourself, but an immigration consultant or lawyer is likely the best kind of professional to consult with. Generally these types of lawyers/consultants will meet with you for free to see if they can help. Here is a list of our verified and unverified lawyers on our directory in that category: http://legal.advicescene.com/us/lawyers?utf8=%E2%9C%93&area=Immigration&state=CA&textQuery=&commit=Search. Try an email or call to one of them. I'm sorry but we don't have a lot of lawyers in this area answering questions so I thought I'd try to assist a bit.

Great, I will try that. I suppose a paralegal is a little cheaper too. Thanks
