I feel like i'm being taken advantage of from both my insurance and dentist.

I informed my dentist that my insurance would terminate at the end of the month because we had discussed getting a TMJ orthotic. They brought me in to be fitted for the devise when I had insurance but said due to their busy schedule had me come after the insurance terminated to pick it up. The dentist office billed the dat of service as the date they fitted me for the device. Now the insurance won't pay because they said the date of service for it is when the device is delivered and sent a bill to the dentist stating its provider liability. The dentist is now trying to stick me with a huge bill. Do I have any legal backing here?
