Using inheritance to pay a loan while going through a separation/divorce.

I inherited money from my father that I have not yet accessed. I am currently separating from my husband.  We have student loans for my daughter that I would like to pay these loans off in full with some of this money but do not want the remainder of the money to be considered marital assets as a result.  Is there a way to do this? If I transfer some of this money to my sister, for example, and have her give the money back to me and my daughter will this exempt the remainder from becoming marital assets?
