Deed cancellation-lien holder no longer in business
I'm trying to get a security deed cancellation on a deed that is 22 years old and has been assigned several times. The latest company that it was assigned to is no longer in business and all correspondence to them has come back undelivered. This was a third mortgage in the amount of around $20k that has been paid off but the cancellation was never recorded. I cannot locate any paperwork showing that this was paid since this is from over 22 years ago. I don't know who to dispute this with at this point. I have sold my house for sale by owner and the buyer's attorney has discovered this on the title. Please advise how I can get rid of this lien so we can close the deal in a timely manner.
