Introduction
Senator John Kuhn is a founding partner of Kuhn and Kuhn, LLC, a boutique estate planning and probate law firm, which he and his wife started in 2002. The law was created to serve clients who want an excellent and thorough estate plan, as well as honest probate representation. John has practiced almost exclusively estate planning and probate since becoming a member of the South Carolina Bar in 1994. He is a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys.

Senator Kuhn was elected to public office as State Senator for South Carolina in 2001, and served the public in Columbia for four years. He served on the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Education Committee, Fish Game and Forestry Committee, Invitations Committee, Transportation Committee and the Rules Committee.
Education
Senator Kuhn graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, before majoring in English at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986. While an undergraduate at Vanderbilt, he met his wife and law partner, Shea Kuhn, a native of Charleston. John and Shea married in 1990 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.
John graduated from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, earning his Juris Doctor Degree, with Honors in Legal Writing. He was a member of the Moot Court Council in law school and a participant in the prestigious Jessup International Moot Court Competition. He was President of the Stevens Chapter of the Phi Delta Phi Honorary Legal Fraternity and a member of the Gavel Society. He was a Student Ambassador for the law school for two years and continues to be a strong supporter of The John Marshall Law School.
John was accepted to attend the esteemed National Session of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy in Boulder, Colorado, in 1997, and graduated with a Diploma in Trial Proficiency. His favorite part of the summer was spending time immersed in trial work with fellow lawyers from top law firms from all over the United States, and attending all the plays he could at the famous Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
