Government Tells BP to Stop Blocking Media Access
|
Thu Jun 10, 2010 The federal government announced they are not restricting media access to sites of the oil spill, and they have asked BP to do the same. The announcement is likely a response to complaints from numerous journalists, who have been complained that BP has prevented them from accessing public beaches. Thad Allen, the government official in charge of overseeing the federal government's involvement, said that the media should only be denied access for two reasons: security or safety. In response to a question about a journalist wanting to take pictures of an oil-covered bird, Allen said he would need know "the specifics of an incident" in order to say whether that was permissible.
