'Masked man' to face immigration panel

A young Asian man who boarded an Air Canada plane in Hong Kong disguised as an elderly Caucasian man is expected to appear before an immigration review panel on Monday to determine whether he will remain in custody. The man, who made a claim for refugee status after he was taken into custody, is set to attend the detention review hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board in Vancouver. He was arrested after the flight landed in Vancouver on Oct. 29 The man's lawyer, Lee Rankin, said it's unlikely his client would be released from custody until his genuine documents arrived in Canada and were evaluated by Canadian security officials, which could take as long as one month. |
