Fri Mar 12, 2010 CBC News Jurvy convicts Jeffrey Downs, 36, of 2nd-degree murder in stomping death A man with schizophrenia has been found guilty of second-degree murder following the beating of a 74-year-old man in the Windsor, Ont., assisted-living home where they lived. Jeffrey Downs, 36, admitted he killed Leo Joseph Kearley by punching, kicking and stomping on his head in February 2008. At issue was whether Downs should be held criminally responsible for the death, or if he were suffering from active symptoms of schizophrenia at the time of the attack. |
