Basic child support is usually to cover a contribution towards food, clothing, accommodation and some recreation.  The special or extraordinary expenses contemplated by the Federal Child Support Guidelines includes those expenses beyond the basic ones listed above and are normally shared in proportion to each parent's guideline income.  Tutoring, that portion of medical, dental or extended health coverage not covered by the plan, post secondary education, are examples in this regard.
It is arguable that soccer regisration or piano lessons fall in the special or extraordinary category and usually both parents need to agree on this or failing agreement, as a Court would order.
