Hello Everyone,In advance I thank you for your guidance, sometimes you are stumped and just too scared to act on it.
Recently both my wife & I were in a car accident. I was driving south on a main street to the right of another car (to the best of my recollection) when a car going north decided to cut us off and make a left turn, when he hits another car of which then hit my car and drove right off the front dash of my vehicle (the car that hit us was a Rav4 miniSUV).
As per the emergency people at the scene, they advised that our car got it the worst. We were hit at a speed of 60 km/hour. From the driver side (myself) I was just hit with the impact and had severe (back & neck pain, concussion & a deep laceration to my right hand of which I could not move my pinky finger for a while. It still hurts me allot and the doctors are looking at ultrasounds to find out if there might be damage to the tendon's. The passenger (my wife) was in the next seat of which because that fact that the car drove off the front hood & air borne off the right side & crunched down the part of the glove compartment onto her legs & smashed closed her door from compression & broke her window. This caused her to have glass scattered all over her along with no feeling in her legs, excessive pain in the knee area and could not get up, excessive back & neck paid.
We are transported to the Hospital in an Ambulance on stretchers with neck braces on (both of us). I was stripped of my jacket, sweater and left in a thin shirt of which was trembling from the cold night (got a cold there after). M y wife was the same way as all her clothes were full of glass partials so she was wrapped in foil paper to calm the cold.
My hand was bleeding so much that all my airbag, jacket and sweater were soaked in blood. The laceration was right on the fourth knuckle, below the pinky finger.
The doctor's are taking good care of us. We are off work now & waiting on Doctors direction. He has advised not to see a lawyer just yet & wait until the Insurance stop cooperating & does not want to provide any more medial benefits.
I am currently employee and was going through a promotional change of which, I was to cover a maternity contract. If I do not return to work I believe they will have to hire someone else & then I will not be trained as needed for that position & may loose the opportunity to be promoted. I had advised the doctors I want to do the best to go back to work 1 month after the incident. He advised for me to give it a try.
Do you think that will effect my case?
Because I feel Mentally okay to return and I do not do heavy work, it is just office (desk work). I feel it will be okay but still want to be compensated for all this pain & inconvenience this incident has caused me.
What should I do?
Also my wife is off work & the doctors has given her two month because she has a lot more pain & bruises. Should she just follow the doctors direction & wait as long as he advises before going back to work?
Please advise.
How much more or less do you think could be the compensation for each of us considering the two different situations?
Should we seek legal help prior to be returning to work? Or wait on the Doctors directions? Please advise.
All your help is much appreciated. Thank you!
Regards,
Mr. Keele

HI- I'm not sure where you are located in Ontario but almost every personal injury lawyer in the province offers a free consultation. Don't be shy about asking someone in your area to meet to discuss your case before you make any important moves. You would probably benefit from having the lawyer review your accident benefit entitlements too.
Most lawyers are very happy to meet with accident victims, even if it does not turn into a case.
