I work for a town office in Canada. They hired me and another girl at the same time, on with a temporary employment contract. we were told we would have to prove what we could do then one of us would be offered a permanent position. After my start date, they trained me for 1 day then shoved me aside and forgot about me. they offered the other girl the position and now almost a year after I started they are trying to get me to sign a new contract for 1/2 the pay and 1/2 the hours. they say if I don't sign, I no longer have a job. Is this legal?
