Court for assault

My boyfriend (who has an assault charge against me with bail conditons not to contact me ) has court next week. He had his preliminary hearing last month but it got adjourned because he stated he needed time to get a lawyer. What will happen at the next court date? Will bail conditions be lifted?

There is no set procedure for each appearance in criminal court for any case, including domestic assaults. The procedure / steps to be taken will vary depending on several variables, including whether your b/f has retained a lawyer, whether the lawyer has or still needs to conduct a pre-trial with the Crown etc. For example, if your boyfriend still does not have a lawyer, he may still need time to retain one, in which case nothing may happen at the 2nd date.

Generally speaking, for a bail variation to occur which would allow for contact with you, the defence and Crown must form a meeting of the minds as to how the case will resolve, or the accused must bring a bail review.  You can speak to Victim Services if you have any questions.
