Can an online school, for canadians, punish and/or expel someone for behaviors outside of the school boundaries?

Im talking to a friend online. It all started out within this online school. After complaints from both of our parents, the school forbade us to talk in the school email, or chat. We are now talking outside of school (on private emails and texting). Can the school do anything about this (e.g. can they expel either one of us and/or decrease or marks if they cannot). Please remember that this is all outside of the school boundaries and we are not talking within the school any longer. Please refer the EXACT law (e.g. under ยง xxxx)Please note: Everyone mentioned is based in Canada.
