There really is no accurate way to assess potential sentencing ranges without a detailed review of disclosure, as well as a detailed review of the accused's background.  For example, you say it is a 2nd offence of Theft Under $5000. What was the outcome of the first? What was the sentence? Are there any mitigating circumstances? What was the nature of the assault being alleged? These questions, plus many more, are the type a lawyer would need answers to before providing an assessment. I would recommend sitting down with a criminal lawyer in your area for a consultation.
