Right to chose the trial by jury

Should the layer in criminal case offer to accused to choose trial by of jury, or he (the lawyer) can decide to have a trial by the judge without consulting the accused? Would it be violation of the accused person rights?

The lawyer for the accused or the accused can request through the judge to have the case decided by a jury if he or she thinks that the judge or justice could not be trusted.
