Crimal offense

I got caught shoplifting for the first time and I did not go in to the shore with the intent to steal but at that moment I made this huge mistake for the first time in my life and my mom was with me (she didn't take anything) and now we're both being charged $500 but we are a low income family and it's really hard for us to arrange the money. Please advice me on what to do.
