Agreed contract start unfulfilled despite resignation from prior job

I recently resigned from my fulltime employment based on a signed contract to start work as an independent consultant. Agreement was signed through an employment agency. 2 weeks after agreed start date, agency keeps changing start date and i have no income since. Lots of committments are crouching at the door for me and no source of income. Can i sue this employment agency underpromissory estoppel principle or any other? What are my options? Many thanks

It's not clear why the employment has been delayed, and that may be an important factor in deciding whether to sue.  Also, your rights, and the obligations of the agency, depend on the terms of the contract you signed.  You should have it reviewed by a lawyer.

Note that if you do have a basis for a lawsuit, you should also consider whether a lawsuit would impact on your reputation with the same agency or other agencies.  I am not suggesting that you should not sue, but you should carefully consider how a lawsuit may impact on your future attempt to obtain similar employment.
