If you are asked by Canadian immigration authorities if you have ever been detained or arrested, you are required to answer yes in order to avoid a finding of "non-compliance" or "misrepresentation".  However, since you were released without going to court it is possible you were not charged with anything, and as such may not be inadmissible for criminality.  The best way to find out whether you have a Canadian criminal record is to undergo an RCMP criminal records check, which will reveal any records that would impact your ability to enter and remain in Canada.  The process of obtaining a criminal record check can be found on the RCMP website.
